How It Began
A response to crisis.
A commitment to community.
Humanitarian Solidarity for Development and Empowerment (HSDE) was founded in 2022 in Canada, at a time when the world was reeling from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The crisis not only threatened physical health but also exposed deep social and emotional challenges; particularly for immigrants, low-income families, and communities struggling with isolation, education gaps, and mental health strain.
Moved by these urgent needs, our founders took the first steps to mobilize support and provide a sense of connection and empowerment for the community. What started informally soon grew in scope, crossing borders and building into a registered charity recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency.
